Buy American. Seriously. We have a troubled economy (thanks to our current asshole-in-chief), so make sure you're supporting American workers.
BUT BE SMART ABOUT IT. If you want a car that's made in America and that supports American workers, avoid the following:
Ford Fusion (designed by Mazda, built in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico)
Mercury Milan (designed by Mazda, built in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico)
Lincoln MKZ (designed by Mazda, built in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico)
Buick Century (I know they don't make it anymore, but my dad's was made in Oshowa, Ontario, Canada)
Chrysler PT Cruiser (PT stands for "Piece of Trash," I'd like to think....and it's made in Toluca, Mexico)
Chervrolet HHR (built in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico)
Saturn Vue (until 2008 was built in Tennessee, now built in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico)
Chevrolet Aveo (designed by the now defunct Daewoo car company of South Korea, and is built in both Bogota, Colombia and Quito, Ecuador)
Saturn Astra (built in Antwerp, Belgium)
Here's a short list of cars that you should buy, because they are made in the US:
Honda Civic (East Liberty, Ohio)
Honda Accord (Marysville, Ohio and Greensburg, Indiana)
Toyota Camry (Georgetown, Kentucky and Lafeyette, Indiana)
Toyota Tundra (Princeton, Indiana and San Antonio, Texas)
Hyundai Sonata (Montgomery, Alabama)
Hyundai Santa Fe (Montgomery, Alabama)
Surprising, right? Yeah, it grinds my gears, too. I once heard a statistic that at least at one time, the Honda Civic was the car with the most American components in it. How sad is that? I don't like hearing malarkey about "buying American" unless it's well founded. So the next time someone tells me to, I'll tell them to go buy a Honda.
